About Us

We have always believed that play is fundamental to helping children become confident, competent learners and that supporting good quality play helps turn the key that unlocks their learning. Tuning into children and watching for when a child becomes curious, fascinated, absorbed, and excited in what they are doing, is a lovely and privileged experience.

Hi I am Salty Dog..

Salty Dog Emporium was created by myself, Salty Dog and my guardian, Julie Kearns Bsc (Hons). To be honest she is the driving force behind the shop, both here online and at our shop in East Wittering, Chichester. I will let her tell you more below:

Quality traditional toys and models that will, through play, inspire and ignite imaginations as well as promote children’s holistic development..

J ulie: My story:

Why the Salty Dog Emporium? I understood, through having worked in the childcare sector for over 20 years, the frustration that parents and carers alike experience in finding good quality, traditional toys and games that promote learning and development, whilst allowing children to enjoy themselves.

I have always believed that play is fundamental to helping children become confident, competent learners and that supporting good quality play helps turn the key that unlocks their learning. Tuning into children and watching for when a child becomes curious, fascinated, absorbed, and excited in what they are doing, is a lovely and privileged experience. I know that is when they are going to learn the most. Opening the Salty Dog Emporium is a wonderful opportunity to promote play and enable our customers both young and old alike to get involved and have some fun!

About Salty Dog:

At Salty Dog Emporium we strive to offer a high quality, friendly service. We are knowledgeable about our products and if customers require, we can make suggestions and give practical advice, guiding them to select a product that will engage and delight the intended recipient.

Why are we called ‘Salty Dog Emporium’? Emporium is a word that embodies our aim of showcasing a good variety of quality products across the spectrum of play, adventure and learning. Salty Dog reflects us as people, because we adore living by the sea and loved our gorgeous, chocolate Labrador Pip, who could have regularly been found splashing about in the ocean, wagging his tail. We miss him terribly.

Salty Dog Emporium Ethos and ethics

Here at Salty Dog Emporium we want to offer our customers quality traditional toys and models that will, through play, inspire and ignite imaginations as well as promote children’s holistic development. We firmly believe that when a child’s curiosity is sparked and they are having fun, they become engaged in their learning and at the same time develop crucial social, language and physical skills. These help them to become confident and capable young people. We feel that we have some truly lovely products that children will cherish and enjoy.

Furthermore we aspire to offer a friendly, informative service and whenever possible to work with suppliers that have an ethical approach either through fair trade or ecological sustainability.

H ere at Salty Dog Emporium we offer quality traditional, toys and models for the discerning youngster, toys to inspire, to educate and to learn by, but more than all, to have fun with.
